Yes, to stop it just make sure the floor has a plastic level on it and then put the bedding down.

This was very helpful! I LOVE pet rats. I had two pet rats that barely lived to see their second year birthdays. I didn’t know that spaying or neutering could extend their life expectancy.

  11. shoepixie says:

I’ve been having pretty good luck with yogurt on my finger. I also find that when I leave them be, they end up getting curious and coming to me, eventually. Just make sure they associate you with nomms!

  12. shoepixie says:

That may be true in some places – some other places (like around here) the main difference is whether they’ve been socialised.

Do boy rats leave pee on you, and will they stop if neutered?

  16. GamePlayUK says:

its a shame rats have a bad reputation in society because theyre great pets..

  17. xmustang says:

All rats do that – and so do cats (which kinda kills your argument). They will initially do it when you first get them or they are first introduced to a person/piece of furniture/etc. They will eventually stop after once or twice doing it, so they don’t do it all the time.

  18. xmustang says:

Dear, almost every single state has one or more rat breeders. Look it up on google, you can probably find one in your state.

  19. xmustang says:

Actually, it does matter. Spayed females are 80% less likely to get tumors than unspayed females.

  20. xmustang says:

There is no difference in “pet” or “feeder” rats sold at the same store. “Pet” rats come from the same breeder as feeders do, they just have prettier coloring.

  21. xmustang says:

To accustom your rats to you, open the cage and put your hand in, palm up. Leave it there for a few minutes. If the rats don’t approach, dont worry – take your hand out and place treats where it was. Keep doing this every day; your rats will accustom your hand to mean treats. Eventually, place the treats in your hand and let the rats take it from you. When they do, you can start moving the treat up your arm so they have to crawl on your hand. treat in.. 1st: palm. 2nd: wrist. etc.

We bought three baby rats. THestore made us wait until they were big enough to leave their mother. Now we have 3 rats that won’t let us hold them. They constantly hide and are affraid of being touched or held. How can we teach them different?
