Drottningholm Castle is located in Lake Malar, 12 kilometres from Stockholm. Of Franco-Dutch design, construction of this regal residence began in 1662 and the castle is now the residence of the Swedish royal family. Lively influences that date back to the Baroque and Rococo periods are part of the characteristic features of the spacious park that surrounds the castle. A number of the sculptures and works of art that are featured in the garden were captured in various military campaigns. The cultural elements of various epochs are also reflected in the general layout of the park that is often referred to as the Swedish Versailles. Drottingholm Castle has managed to retain the regal atmosphere of the Swedish royal families just as it was during the 18th century.
